A JANE AUSTEN DAYDREAM is coming back!!!

    A Jane Austen Daydream's Facebook page!Hi readers!

After a few lousy days and the painful experience of watching the eBook disappear for A JANE AUSTEN DAYDREAM (with the old and troubled print version shortly to follow), I can triumphantly declare that a new publisher has emerged for the book!

I can’t say too much more at this time since the contracts still are being signed, but after another quick edit and preparation work the book should emerge back on the market better than ever.

I am happily overwhelmed with this development and I look forward to sharing this new release with you in two to three months.

    Thank you for reading!

“Definitely a classic read with a humourous touch, well done!”

A Jane Austen DaydreamAn interesting new review for A JANE AUSTEN DAYDREAM has appeared on The Jane Austen Centre.

In many ways it is “real-time” review (here) as a very well-read Austenite goes through the book almost chapter by chapter (she even calls me cheeky!). A lot of the clash of history versus fiction in the book is discussed and for her as an Austenite it was a little distracting seeing the very intentional differences (which to me is understandable, since I’m dipping into new fictional territory here, re-imagining a life as something very new), but the end says it is a “a classic read with a humourous touch, well done!”

Please be aware! There are a A LOT OF SPOILERS in the review, including the big twist in the book.

–So read this at your own warning!–

You can learn more about the book, read interviews and excerpts, and find links where to get it via the A JANE AUSTEN DAYDREAM page here.

A Jane Austen Daydream: Issue With Print Copy!

    A Jane Austen DaydreamGreetings readers!

This weekend my publisher discovered that the printer has been using the eBook format instead of the formatted printing version for its printing of A JANE AUSTEN DAYDREAM. So if you have a copy of the novel that is only 280 pages and no page breaks… Well, there you go.

The fact, of course, is that this doesn’t change the book. It is still my book… just with smaller font and other visual issues. My publisher is working now to fix the problem with the printer. I’ll post here once the book is ready to be available again.

Of course, while the paperback is being corrected, the eBook is still available.

And you can learn more, read interviews and excerpts, etc. always via the A JANE AUSTEN DAYDREAM page.

First Reader Review for A JANE AUSTEN DAYDREAM!

A Jane Austen DaydreamThe first reader review for my novel A JANE AUSTEN DAYDREAM is on amazon! I couldn’t be more thrilled.

I’ve yet to find an author who is as adept as Mr. Southard at imitating voice. Reading this was like reading Jane Austen – and I’m a huge Jane Austen fan. I think she’d be pleased, too.
This story weaves fact and fiction effortlessly. I love the pace, the form and obvious admiration the author has for the subject. This is not your typical book, yet it’s eclectic nature is its draw. I can’t say more without a spoiler. Sometimes we just need a happy ending.
I highly recommend this book to Austen fans.

The print and eBook version are both available on amazon right now. You can find them here via my author page: http://www.amazon.com/Scott-D.-Southard/e/B002EDX5VC/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1

My Online Literary Experiment: Holiday Break!

One of my heroes!Sometimes like a coach, a writer has to make the right call for the team or athlete, no matter how unpopular the decision might be. (I am assuming this, I know nothing about sports.)

See, I realized today that it would be impossible to really create a first-rate chapter in time for this friday because of the holiday.

I have two little kids, and family to visit, etc., and the fact is I will be losing too many evenings writing. (Seriously, almost all of my evenings! It would’ve been hell and stressful. Not Christmas-y at all.) So I have decided that it would be best for the book that I delay the release of Chapter 23 by one week.

Yup, Chapter 23 will not be released now until January 4.

For those that might be worried that somehow the book/writing experiment might be in trouble so near the end, let me say loudly: NO WORRIES. I have a good first draft of the chapter ready, and if it was a normal week ahead there would have been no problem at all.

And also, do I want to be stressing this week about a chapter, writing until the wee hours, or instead waiting for Santa by the window with my kids? Sorry, readers the answer was obvious to me.  I’m a believer in the man in the red suit and the white beard.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a nice holiday. Rebecca, Jenn, Vince, Marty, Mary, Viv, Gordon, Steve, Ralph, Lilly, and even Bob will be back in the new year to end my new novel, Permanent Spring Showers.

(… Oh, and buy my new book A Jane Austen Daydream. It is quite lovely and filled with writing surprises [and only 99 cents on amazon right now!];  and will help you as you wait for the return of my little/massive experiment.)

    Happy Birthday Jane Austen!

Jane Austen_ImageToday is Jane Austen’s birthday. I won’t presume to argue that the best way to celebrate her big day is by buying my book, A Jane Austen Daydream; I don’t roll that way.

Jane inspired me to write my latest novel; wait, she just didn’t inspire it, she is also IN it. She is a writing hero, and I wanted to give her a better tale than the one life had chosen for her. Yes, it pains me that she didn’t have time to give us more great works.

It’s a good day to brush off your copy of your favorite Ms. Austen book and enjoy… Happy Birthday Jane Austen.
